Former Liverpool striker Divock Origi announced his retirement from professional football on Monday, June 8, 2026.
The 31-year-old Belgian posted the statement on X. He said his purpose in the game is fulfilled after living out his childhood dreams.
According to Origi, “My purpose in the game is fulfilled. I lived out my childhood dreams, played on the biggest stages, won the biggest trophies. Grateful to God for all of it.” He thanked fans, clubs, teammates, and family. He added, “This will forever be ours. Thank you.”
Origi joined Liverpool from Genk in 2014. He scored key goals in the 2019 Champions League final win and helped the club secure the 2019-20 Premier League title. He later played for AC Milan and Nottingham Forest on loan. His last competitive match was in April 2024.
In the statement, Origi wrote, “The mission is complete. Now I step into my next calling. More of the journey to come.” Liverpool FC and fans reacted with tributes to the cult hero known for big-moment performances.
Origi represented Belgium at senior international level 32 times. He retires after a career that saw him feature in major European competitions.
