Canadian rapper Drake has once again found himself at the center of the infamous “Drake curse” after losing a $1.5 million bet following Spain’s victory over Argentina in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.
Ahead of Sunday’s showpiece at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, Drake shared a betting slip showing he had wagered $1.5 million on Lionel Messi’s Argentina to defeat Spain in regulation time. Had the bet come through, Drake stood to collect a payout of more than $5.1 million.
Sadly for him, Spain emerged victorious, with Ferran Torres scoring the decisive goal in the 106th minute of extra time to secure a 1-0 win and hand La Roja their second FIFA World Cup title. The result also ended Argentina’s hopes of successfully defending the trophy.
The defeat immediately reignited talk of the “Drake curse,” a long-running fan theory suggesting that teams, athletes or celebrities backed by the Canadian superstar often go on to lose.
