President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
He takes over from Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose second term concludes on July 31, 2026. The announcement was made on Thursday by Presidential Adviser Bayo Onanuga. Here are five key things to know about the incoming JAMB boss:
1. Historic Youngest Registrar: Aina, who turns 40 in July, will become the youngest Registrar in the history of JAMB. He was also previously recognized as one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering.
2. Began at JAMB as a Corp Member: In a remarkable twist of fate, Aina’s professional relationship with JAMB actually started during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year. His early experience with the board’s data systems heavily influenced his career in examination reforms.
3. Extensive UK Training: He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, followed by an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He also attended the Lagos Business School.
4. OAU Professor and Tech Expert: Before his appointment, he was a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife. He is highly sought after for his expertise in digital infrastructure and examination integrity.
5. Consultant to NECO and NABTEB: With over 15 years of experience, Aina has consulted for major educational bodies like NECO and NABTEB, driving digital transitions.
A registered member of COREN and the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Aina once attributed his rapid success to combining hard work with smart work.
