Kenyan President William Ruto has fired back at his Nigerian counterpart, Bola Tinubu, after the Nigerian leader claimed that Nigerians are better off than citizens of other African countries, including Kenya.

The exchange began when Tinubu, while inaugurating projects in Bayelsa State, admitted that fuel prices are biting hard but urged Nigerians to thank God they are still better off than people in Kenya and other African nations.

“The fuel price is biting hard, but listen to them in Kenya and other African countries. We will continue to find ways to ameliorate the sufferings of the vulnerable,” Tinubu had said.

But Ruto responded in a now-viral video, dismissing the comparison and taking a swipe at Nigeria’s power sector and English usage.

“Our education is good. Our English is good. We speak the best English in the world. If you listen to a Nigerian speak English, you’ll need a translator,” Ruto said with humour.

He further jabbed at Nigeria’s infrastructure challenges, suggesting that the country should fix its persistent power supply issues before comparing economies.

The Kenyan president defended his nation’s standing, insisting that Kenya boasts the best human capital anywhere in the world.
