Veteran Nigerian singer, Charles Oputa,  popularly known as Charly Boy, has criticised Nigerian Christian clerics, alleging that many of them are more focused on making money than holding leaders accountable.

Speaking on a recent episode of the KAA Truths podcast, the 75-year-old entertainer said most Nigerian pastors have remained silent despite the economic hardship and insecurity facing the country.

“All the pastors I know of in Nigeria, 99 per cent of them are useless. It is just a business that they are running,” he claimed.

Charly Boy also accused some clerics of working closely with corrupt politicians to take advantage of the public.

He further stated that although he lives in Nigeria, he does not share the same mindset or approach to life as many Nigerians, adding that he would not be deceived by what he described as the false image presented by some religious leaders.

“I may live in Nigeria, but Nigeria does not live in me. I don’t believe like you. I don’t want to think like you people. I’m not in the same class with you people. I come from a different space and time,” he added.
