The management committee of a mosque in Bauchi State has removed its imam, Dahiru Abubakar, over allegations that he used religious sermons to campaign for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Abubakar served at Masjid Abdullahi Bin Zubbair in the Madina quarters of Bauchi metropolis. The committee said the decision followed repeated warnings against using the mosque for political activities.
According to a report by Premium Times, the mosque’s committee chairman, Abubakar Jibrin, confirmed the imam’s removal, explaining that the committee had cautioned him several times, but he continued making political remarks during sermons after obligatory prayers.
A source cited in the report said Abubakar had urged worshippers not to blame Tinubu for Nigeria’s insecurity and had argued that the president deserved another term in office.
The committee reportedly set up a panel after the imam made similar remarks the previous weekend. His removal followed another sermon after the early morning Subhi prayer on Sunday, October 18, 2026.
