The National Sports Commission (NSC) has endorsed Emmanuel Ikpeme as the interim general secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), following the resignation of Dr Mohammed Sanusi, amid a sweeping leadership crisis within the federation.
Ikpeme, who previously served as Deputy General Secretary, is expected to officially assume office on Friday, August 28, 2026.
His appointment follows a major shake-up within the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), which saw President Ibrahim Musa Gusau and members of the Executive Committee resign, effectively bringing the current leadership structure to an abrupt end.
According to an NFF statement, Ikpeme will oversee the NFF Secretariat and coordinate its activities pending further decisions from the National Sports Commission (NSC), including the possible appointment of a Normalisation Committee to manage the federation’s transition.
Ademola Olajire, previously NFF director of media and communications, becomes the deputy general secretary.
The statement also added that all processes initiated in preparation for the NFF elective congress scheduled for September 27 have also been suspended.
“A fresh electoral process will commence following the completion of the anticipated comprehensive reforms, to be undertaken in consultation with world football’s governing body, FIFA, and CAF,” the statement reads.
