Canada has booked their place in the World Cup Round of 16 after scoring a stoppage-time winner to edge South Africa 1-0 in their knockout-stage clash.
Midfielder Stephen Eustaquio broke the deadlock with a late stoppage-time strike to send the co-hosts into the last 16.  The 92nd-minute goal sent Canada through to the next round, while South Africa’s impressive World Cup campaign came to an end.
South Africa, which had reached the knockout stage for the first time in their history after defeating South Korea in the group phase, defended for most of the contest, and threatened on the counterattack. However, they were unable to find a breakthrough before conceding the decisive late goal.
