The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP),  Peter Obi, and former Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso, have formally joined the National Democratic Congress (NDC) after leaving the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The two former governors joined the opposition party in Abuja at its national secretariat on Sunday, May 3, and received their membership cards.

Earlier, Obi announced his exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while Kwankwaso also hinted that he was having “wide-ranging consultations” with the NDC.

Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe, NDC national chairman, presented the party’s membership card to Obi and Kwankwaso.

Speaking after the event, Kwankwaso said he and Obi came to discuss with the NDC stakeholders about the party and their ideologies.

The former Kano governor said they realised that their ideologies and beliefs are the same.

Kwankwaso urged Nigerians to register with the NDC ahead of the deadline for registration of party members.

Also speaking, the former Anambra governor urged NDC members to avoid litigation, adding that the goal of the party is to rescue the country and not engage in court cases.

Obi said the NDC wants to form a government that will rebuild Nigeria and make the country livable for all Nigerians.

“Let there be no litigation. Party members, please don’t go to court. We are not lawyers. We don’t want to spend our time on litigation,” Obi said.

“This party would form the government that will rebuild Nigeria. Government that will ensure that Nigerians in Nigeria are living with no fear.”
