The newly promoted assistant inspector-general of police (AIG), Moshood Jimoh, has assumed duty as the senior officer in charge of zone 2 command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
Jimoh officially resumed duty on Monday, March 30, after his posting and elevation from Commissioner of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspector General (AIG).
In his first statement, Jimoh warned that his administration will not tolerate misconduct, warning that erring officers will face disciplinary action.
He also declared zero tolerance for corruption and human rights violations, stressing that the credibility of the Nigeria Police Force must be restored through ethical conduct and responsible engagement with the public.
“The task before us is quite enormous, but I’m confident with the team I have — the entire police officers and the commissioners of police in Lagos and Ogun states — for their commitment to ensuring the safety of life and property and, equally, the prevention of crime and the detection of those crimes that cannot be prevented,” the AIG said.
“I’m very sure we are going to take policing to the next level in this zone, and we are going to equally put policing at the doorstep of every good people of these two states in ensuring that they are safe both at home, on the streets, and in workplaces.
“They shouldn’t have any fear of apprehension as they go about their normal activities in these two states.
“We are going to ensure that we are human-rights compliant. 100 percent, in everything that will be done. Anything that is done, which is not in the public interest and doesn’t guarantee human rights and dignity, is nothing but against the law.
“The issue of flagrant and indiscriminate transfer of cases from lower level to zonal headquarters will stop forthwith.
“We will only deal with special cases and all the other cases assigned to us by the inspector-general of police or the cases for which the zone is set up.
“We ensure that we comply with the dictate of the inspector-general of police in this regard.”
