Major League Soccer (MLS) has issued lifetime bans to midfielder Derrick Jones and Ghanaian winger Yaw Yeboah after an investigation found they were involved in extensive betting on football matches.

According to the league, both players placed bets during the 2024 and 2025 seasons, including wagers on games involving their own teams — a serious violation of MLS rules.
The league revealed that the pair once placed bets predicting that Jones would receive a yellow card during a match between Columbus Crew and the New York Red Bulls in October 2024. The booking later occurred during the game.

Investigators also believe the players may have shared confidential information with other bettors, including plans to intentionally receive yellow cards during matches.
Jones, 29, had already been released by the Columbus Crew in November last year. Meanwhile, the 28-year-old Yeboah left Los Angeles FC in January before joining Chinese club Qingdao Hainiu last month.

MLS said there was no evidence that the betting activities directly affected the final results of any matches.
