Kun Khalifa FC have officially announced their withdrawal from the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), citing what they described as an “unfair sanction” imposed by the league authorities.
In a strongly worded press release, the club’s Chief Executive Officer, Michael Amaefula, said Kun Khalifa could no longer continue in a league “that ignores the realities and challenges faced by its member clubs and chooses punishment over fairness and justice.”
The Imo-based side’s decision followed disciplinary measures taken by the NPFL after the club failed to travel to Maiduguri for their matchday 24 fixture against El-Kanemi Warriors on February 2, 2026.
The league body deemed the reasons provided by Kun Khalifa for missing the match “unacceptable” and consequently docked the club three points and three goals, in addition to slapping them with a ₦10 million fine.
Reacting to the sanctions, Kun Khalifa insisted they had formally communicated their challenges to the NPFL, including the breakdown of the team’s vehicles, but claimed the league failed to acknowledge or consider the explanation.
The club further accused the NPFL of unilaterally rescheduling the fixture without adequate consultation.
“The decision to forfeit 3 points and 3 goals, coupled with a fine of N10m, is not only disproportionate but a clear indication of the NPFL’s bias against our club,” the statement reads.
“We believe that the sanctions are a travesty of justice and demonstrate a lack of willingness to engage with clubs in a fair and transparent manner.
“We urge the NPFL to review their policies and procedures to ensure that clubs are treated fairly and with respect. We also call upon other clubs to demand reforms and greater accountability from the league management.”
Kun Khalifat FC is one of the four privately owned clubs featuring in the 2025/26 NPFL season, alongside Remo Stars, Ikorodu City and Barau FC.
British TV personality Narinder Kaur, has been targeted by trolls who edited an image to give the impression she had ties with late financier Jeffrey Epstein.
A photo of the 53-year-old, best known for her appearances on Jeremy Vine and Good Morning Britain, was digitally superimposed onto an image of the paedophile and circulated on X by an anonymous account.
The fake picture appears to show Epstein dressed in a black polo shirt with his arm around the neck of Ms Kaur as she pouts into the camera.
But in reality, the photograph shows the sex offender hugging Belarusian woman Karyna Shuliak, thought to be Epstein’s last known girlfriend.
The image appears to have been manipulated using artificial intelligence (AI) in order to give the impression that Ms Kaur knew Epstein.
She told the Daily Mail: ‘I have never met, or had any dealings with Jeffrey Epstein. The fact I even have to say that out loud shows how dangerous and surreal this kind of AI abuse has become.
‘It’s exhausting having to constantly defend yourself against things that never happened. There is a real emotional toll to waking up and seeing your face placed into vile, fabricated scenarios.’
Ms Kaur says she has been targeted because of the colour of her skin and for being outspoken on social media.
‘I’m being targeted by trolls who know exactly what they’re doing, they’re trying to humiliate me, discredit me and attach my name to something so grotesque that people stop and wonder if it could be true,’ she added.
‘This is the new form of online abuse. You don’t need a real photo or a real event anymore. AI can invent it for you and within minutes people are questioning your reality.
‘I think I’m targeted because I speak out. I’m a woman of colour, I’m opinionated and I don’t stay quiet. That combination seems to make me a magnet for this kind of hate.’
It was also reported that a report on the original post been made to a police force in England, which has now been passed to the Metropolitan Police.
