The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has honoured the life and legacy of renowned American gospel singer and worship leader, Ron Kenoly, who passed away at the age of 81.

Reports indicate that news of Kenoly’s death broke on Tuesday, sparking an outpouring of tributes from gospel music communities, Christian leaders, and believers across the world.

PFN President, Bishop Francis Wale-Oke, described the late singer as a devoted servant of God whose life and ministry reflected deep spiritual commitment. In a tribute shared on his Facebook page on Wednesday, the PFN leader praised Kenoly as “a true worshipper who lived solely for the glory of God.”

According to Bishop Wale-Oke, Ron Kenoly embodied profound spiritual depth, walked closely with the Holy Spirit, and remained firmly grounded in the Scriptures. He noted that the late gospel icon ministered with exceptional grace through both spoken word and music, drawing people into genuine moments of worship and reverence.

“He carried the presence of God wherever he ministered, lifting hearts and nations into a powerful atmosphere of worship,” the PFN president stated.

Bishop Wale-Oke recalled that PFN and the Nigerian Christian community had the privilege of hosting Kenoly on several occasions, both within Nigeria and abroad. During these visits, the worship leader ministered passionately, dedicating himself to serving God and strengthening the global Body of Christ.

While acknowledging the pain of his passing, the PFN president urged believers to take comfort in the assurance that a life devoted to God never goes unrewarded. He stressed that Kenoly’s spirit-filled songs, enduring legacy, and far-reaching influence would continue to impact generations to come.

Bishop Wale-Oke also extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the late singer, praying for God’s comfort, strength, and abiding presence during this difficult period. Quoting from the Book of Revelation, he emphasised that those who die in the Lord find rest from their labours, while their works continue to speak on their behalf.

Born on December 6, 1944, in Coffeyville, Kansas, Ron Kenoly rose to global prominence in the late 20th century through his powerful live worship recordings and dynamic leadership in contemporary praise and worship music.

His ministry transcended national boundaries, reaching churches across Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Many of his songs became staples in worship services worldwide, shaping the sound and expression of modern Christian worship.

Over the course of his illustrious career, Kenoly released more than 20 albums, including Jesus Is Alive (1991), Ancient of Days (1992), God Is Able (1994), Sing Out With One Voice (1995), Welcome Home (1996), and High Places: The Best of Ron Kenoly. Through these works, he blended gospel, praise, and contemporary Christian music in ways that influenced countless worship leaders and church choirs.

Kenoly earned widespread acclaim for his energetic performances, strong choir arrangements, and engaging congregational worship style, which consistently inspired and uplifted audiences.

Beyond music, he also served as a respected pastor and worship leader at Jubilee Christian Centre in San Jose, California, and featured prominently at international worship conferences, seminars, and church events around the world.

His life, ministry, and music remain a lasting testament to the power of worship and faithful service to God.
